  1. This double LP is easily Maynard Ferguson 's best jazz-oriented recording for Columbia. With the exception of a remake of "MacArthur Park" (which isn't bad), the music sticks exclusively to jazz with the highlights including "I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You," "Two for Otis," "Stay Loose with Bruce," "The Fox Hunt," and "Got the Spirit.".
  2. M.F. Horns 4&5: Live At Jimmy's [Import] on CD. Ferguson's Big Band was playing a residency at New York's Jimmy's Club where this album was recorded live one lunchtime. CBS were keen to catch the vibrancy of the band hence the rush to record it. The material is a mixture with Jimmy Webb's 'MacArthur Park' being one of the standouts.

  4. Having seen Maynard perform live many times in the s, I feel confident in saying that this session best preserves the feeling of being at one of his concerts during that era - as long as you play it loud. Once he started the M.F. Horn series, Maynard didn't do many live recordings, so this is a real joivittuforcpetozamucacesoca.cos:
  5. Mar 15,  · For some reason I have an affinity for tenor players with weird names ("With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good"), so I was instantly drawn to Ferdinand Povel's playing on Maynard Ferguson's M.F. Horn 4&5, which is one of those LPs that I'd played into dust and am therefore glad to finally see out on CD. Actually, to be honest, it wasn't his name that got my attention -- no, actually, it.

  7. May 22,  · Along the way I was treated to some outstanding albums(M.F Horn 4 & 5 - Live at Jimmy's, Chameleon, & These Cats Can Swing) to some, shall we say, not so great efforts (Primal Scream, & Hot). Always though, there were two things consistant with every release, the signature sound of the MF trumpet and the high quality of his joivittuforcpetozamucacesoca.cos:
